Steve Webber
Maintenance Mechanic, Stationary Engineering Team Lead
As a Stationary Engineer, I am licensed to operate KDH’s three steam boilers and all ancillary equipment such as air handling units, air conditioning units, pneumatic and digital controls. As a team, we perform preventative maintenance on all of our HVAC and plumbing equipment. We monitor and fulfil work service requests throughout the hospital. We also do our best to fix what gets broken. I liaise with our contract service providers to ensure they have what they need to perform work that we cannot do.
Prior to working at KDH, I was retired (for one year) from the City of Nepean and Ottawa after 36 years of service. My wife had her knee surgery at KDH and we were both so impressed with the staff and care she received. As a result, when I saw a posting on the hospital website for a maintenance position, I applied. I was eventually encouraged to apply for the Team Lead position when my predecessor announced his retirement. So, in effect, KDH chose me and gave me, a retiree, a chance at a second career I never knew I wanted but greatly appreciate.
Being able to still contribute to the hospital and community I live in gives me great satisfaction.
