Kemptville District Hospital celebrates 2,000th CT scan
Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) celebrated its 2,000th CT scan on Friday, October 10, 2025. This major milestone marks approximately six months since KDH welcomed its first CT patient on April 14, 2025.
The Tallman Family CT Scanner Suite has improved access to safe, high quality health care by providing advanced diagnostic imaging close to home. It has also reduced CT wait times regionally, enabling care teams to diagnose patients more quickly, thereby managing and treating their conditions faster.
“The CT has transformed patient care locally by enhancing emergency and inpatient services, and improving regional access and flow,” said the hospital’s CEO, Frank Vassallo. “KDH would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to bringing a CT Scanner to Kemptville, including our wonderful Foundation, incredibly supportive community, and dedicated provincial, county and municipal partners.”
The Tallman Family CT Scanner Suite is averaging between 20 and 25 CT scans per day (Monday to Friday), or approximately 400 to 500 per month. In July, KDH achieved a score of 97% for CT patients scanned within their target dates, which vary depending on level of urgency (28 days being the longest for non-urgent CT scans).
“Nearly 100 per cent of people who came to KDH for a CT scan got one within the target date prescribed by their physician,” said Vassallo. “That is a remarkable achievement, and I’d like to thank Team KDH for all their hard work.”
The CT Scanner – a GE Revolution Ascend – uses computed tomography to examine structures in 3 dimensions inside the body using the latest AI computing power. It’s housed in Ontario’s first-ever Prefabricated Modular Cassette for CT; a 1,350-square-foot addition that ties directly into KDH’s existing Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Department, which also performs x-ray, ultrasound, mammogram, bone density and cardiac examinations for patients.
“Congratulations to the Diagnostic Imaging team at Kemptville District Hospital and everyone involved in reaching this important milestone,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “Achieving 2,000 CT scans in six months demonstrates how vital this service has become for patients in North Grenville and communities beyond. Our government’s commitment to ensure patients have access to imaging services close to home is reducing wait times for patients and ensuring KDH’s physicians and staff have the modern equipment they need to provide world-class healthcare.”
“Having a CT scanner at the Kemptville District Hospital has fundamentally changed local health care for our residents,” said North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford. “Since welcoming the first patient in April, KDH has delivered fast, safe diagnostics closer to home – reducing transfers to Ottawa, shortening wait times, and keeping our paramedics and care teams available locally when it matters most. Our community both needed and deserved this critical diagnostic tool – not only for patients, but also for the clinicians who work tirelessly to provide the best possible care. This 2,000-scan milestone reflects a remarkable community effort, led by the KDH Foundation with vital support from the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and the Municipality of North Grenville. I have been proud to advocate for this essential equipment on behalf of our region, and I remain deeply grateful to every donor, clinician, and volunteer who helped make it possible.”
“As a community, you have to link arms and work together to accomplish something like this,” said Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Warden of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, and Mayor of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. “Reaching 2,000 CT scans speaks to the dedication and commitment of staff at Kemptville District Hospital. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible.”
