KDH receives official designation as a CT Site

APRIL 27, 2022 –  Kemptville District Hospital (KDH)’s initiative to add CT scanning capability to its services took a huge leap forward today with the announcement that the Ontario government has officially designated KDH as a CT Site.

“Currently our patients requiring CT have to be transported to Ottawa or Winchester, causing delays in getting these potentially life-saving diagnostic tests,” said KDH’s CEO, Frank J. Vassallo. “We recognized some time ago that we need to be able to offer CT in our ER and are thrilled to see this initiative moving forward with our official designation as a CT Site.”

Vassallo added that having CT scanning capabilities will be a “game changer” for KDH as it will also enable the hospital to bring in new medical and surgical programs requiring CT.

Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, made the announcement at KDH, with North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford in attendance. “After decades of inaction and underinvestment by previous governments, the people of Kemptville have had to make do with hospitals that did not have the diagnostic tools they need to provide the level of care that our growing community needs,” MPP Clark said. “Our government is fixing this problem by helping Kemptville District Hospital secure their first CT Scanner, so that all Ontarians can access the world-class care they need right here in Kemptville.”

Vassallo expressed gratitude to Health Minister Christine Elliott for designating KDH as a CT Site. “I would also like to thank our MPP Steve Clark for his unwavering support of KDH,” he said, “ – especially in our quest to bring a CT Scan to Kemptville.”

Vassallo next expressed thanks to the Municipality of North Grenville for providing funding support for the CT Scan initiative in the amount of $900,000. In addition, he thanked the KDH Auxiliary for their generous contribution of $60,000, which will be used to support the CT scan initiative.

Next steps to move the CT Scan initiative forward include a fundraising campaign by the KDH Foundation and the construction of an addition on the side of the hospital to house the CT technology.

“We will keep the community informed as we continue to move this vital initiative forward,” concluded Vassallo.
