KDH Board of Directors Welcomes Six New Members

The Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has welcomed six new members, elected at its 64th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 27, 2024.

“I am very pleased to welcome Darryl Boyce, George Enei, Gilles LeVasseur, Patrick Snelling, Tedd Wood, and Gordon Wyse to the KDH Board of Directors,” said Jeff Nolan, Board Chair. “They join the Board at a critical time, when the communities we serve are depending on us to help navigate through anticipated growth due to population increases, ongoing health human resource challenges, and funding pressures. We look forward to the insight and leadership they will bring to our skills-based Board, as we help guide KDH through these challenges.”

The KDH Board of Directors is composed of both elected and ex-officio Directors, including a Municipal Council Member. The Board has overall responsibility for overseeing the operations of the Hospital and guiding its future in the health system.

Meet the new members of the KDH Board of Directors:

Darryl Boyce

Darryl BoyceDarryl Boyce, P.Eng., is a retired mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the planning, management, operations and energy performance of post-secondary education facilities. A recognized leader in his field, he was elected President of ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) for the 2019-2020 term. He is also an ASHRAE Fellow and Life Member and has served on the Board of Directors in a variety of roles. He is currently the Chair of ASHRAE’s Development Committee and the Headquarters Building Ad hoc Committee. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Boyce was a special advisor to the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Carleton University, and previously served as Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management and Planning. Mr. Boyce has also been a consultant on a range of projects, including the unique SNOLAB scientific research facility in Sudbury, Ontario, where he was responsible for the design and construction of a world class research facility for underground science. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of Alberta. Mr. Boyce lives in Kemptville.

George Enei

George EneiGeorge Enei, P.Eng., is a retired senior executive with the federal public service. He held senior positions at Environment and Climate Change Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada, and the Office of the Chief Science Advisor. He served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services & Chief Information Officer, as well as Assistant Deputy Minister, Science and Technology. His contributions on the international stage include serving as President of the Bureau and Chair of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Chemicals Committee and Working Party on Chemicals, Pesticides, and Biotechnology. Mr. Enei holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil Engineering) from the University of Toronto and a certificate in Municipal Administration from Mohawk College in Hamilton. In his retirement, he is committed to volunteering his experience, knowledge and time to charities and not-for-profits to maximize the potential of individuals to further their goals and contribute to better communities. Mr. Enei is currently President of the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization and Vice President of the Parent Resource Centre. Mr. Enei resides in Manotick.

Gilles LeVasseur

Gilles LeVasseurGilles LeVasseur, O.Ont, LLD, LSM, CD, is a highly respected lawyer and University of Ottawa Professor, where he has been teaching Management and Law since 1987. He has earned several university degrees in business, economics, health, law, and international affairs, as well as international certificates in law and human rights. Mr. LeVasseur’s contributions to Canadian society and the governance of associations have garnered him 46 prestigious awards, including the Order of Ontario, the Good Citizenship Award for Ontario, the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, the rank of Commander of the Order of La Pléiade, an honorary doctorate, the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award, the Senate 150th Medal, St. John Ambulance Medal, seven fellowships, and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. His professional experience includes the management of projects in the public and private sectors, drafting legislation and regulations on lawsuits, and developing digital policies and initiatives. Mr. LeVasseur has published 14 books on law, business, and social issues. He is serving, or has served, as a member of several national boards, including as Chair of the Court Challenges Program, President of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, and Chair of the Ingenium Foundation. Mr. LeVasseur resides in Ottawa.

Patrick Snelling

Patrick SnellingPatrick Snelling is a highly experienced Civil Litigator and a Partner at the law firm of Allan Snelling LLP. Prior to joining Allan Snelling, he served as Associate with Bradbrooke Crawford Green, and previous to that, with Campbell Learne Zenk. Earlier in his career, Mr. Snelling spent eight years in private practice as a Criminal Defence Lawyer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, and an LLB (Bachelor of Law) from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Snelling has a long history of giving back to the community; his previous volunteer governance experience includes roles as Director of Operations for Kanata Soccer, Member of the Kanata North Recreation Centre Steering Committee, and Member of the Board of the Kanata North Business Improvement Area (BIA). Mr. Snelling lives in Ottawa West.

Edward Wood

Tedd Wood

Edward Wood, P.Eng., attended the University of New Brunswick, earning a degree in Forest Engineering. After university, he worked for forest companies in British Columbia and Quebec. He moved to the federal government, working at the Canadian Forestry Service, and then to the Office of the Auditor General of Canada. Working on performance audits, ranging from the construction of the National Gallery of Canada, to a bridge in the Northwest Territories, to Cyber Protection of Critical Infrastructure, and international assignments, provided a wide range of experience and opportunities to learn. Now retired, Mr. Wood currently serves as a Board Member of the Lower Ottawa Valley chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association. He joined the KDH Patient and Family Advisory Committee in 2022 and became its Co-Chair in 2024, thereby becoming an ex-officio member of the Board. Mr. Wood is a long-time resident of Becketts Landing.

Gordon Wyse
Gordon WyseGordon Wyse is a seasoned financial executive with more than 35 years’ experience steering and overseeing global high-tech enterprises. He currently serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Vitalis; headquartered in Kelowna, BC, Vitalis champions a green agenda by designing, producing, and installing industrial CO2-based heat pumps. Previously he spearheaded the global financial strategies of esteemed companies such as Klipfolio Inc., Corsa Technology Inc., Chipworks Inc., Overlay TV Inc., TenXC Wireless Inc., and Tropic Networks. Mr. Wyse is a Chartered Professional Accountant with a Commerce degree from Ottawa University. Beyond boardrooms and financial spreadsheets, he has a passion for community service, which led him to the KDH Board. Mr. Wyse is a proud resident of Kemptville.

In addition to welcoming the new Directors, the KDH Board congratulated Erin Bonokoski, a Board Member since 2022, on her appointment to the Vice-Chair position. The Board said good-bye to elected directors Andrew Vignuzzi (previous Vice-Chair), Elizabeth MacPherson (Past Board Chair), and Margaret Harrison, who have completed their terms on the Board, having joined in 2018, 2017, and 2016, respectively. The Board also said farewell to ex-officio Board Member Bob Hale, the previous Co-Chair of the KDH Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC); Mr. Hale joined the Board in 2019.

“Our volunteer Board of Directors is a crucial link between KDH and the communities we are privileged to serve,” said CEO Frank Vassallo. “The fact that we’ve been able to attract such an impressive slate of new Directors speaks to the excellence of the current Board,” he added. “The expertise of our new Directors will beautifully complement the existing skillsets within the Board.”
