Louise Beaudoin,Environmental Services TechnicianKemptville District Hospital
I started my career at KDH almost 20 years ago. I have seen many changes, and people have come and gone over the years. I chose to work at KDH because I was raised in Kemptville and my children were born at the hospital – I have such sentimental feelings towards the place.
Working in Environmental Services alongside nurses, doctors and other members of our care teams fulfills me. I love to clean patients’ rooms because they express their appreciation for a job well done. I often sing to them to make their day a little brighter and sometimes they sing along! I dress up on the different holidays and have scrubs for every occasion. Sometimes I try to make a patient’s last days, happy ones.
In Environmental Services we are responsible for all aspects of cleaning: from mopping floors to a ‘terminal’ (total) room clean, which includes floor, walls, ceiling, windows, bathroom, furniture, and all medical equipment in the room, as well as removing curtains and hanging new ones. We are also responsible for all garbage and linen collection within the hospital (and there is a lot!).
Because of COVID-19, I wear personal protective equipment (PPE) every day with glasses and mask and I wear full PPE in the ER and any isolation rooms or rooms where we are doing terminal cleans. Not a lot of fun climbing a ladder with full PPE, but we do what we have to do in order to keep ourselves and others safe. I am very thankful for the amazing bunch I work with – I love being part of a great team.
I strive to be the best I can be every day and bring a little joy to the people I meet. It has been my pleasure and honor to work at KDH all these years. God willing there will be a few more.
