I love nursing and helping people be restored to health through surgery!

KDH has had a special place in my heart since I moved back to North Gower in 1988. Over the years I had a number of positive experiences at KDH. Staff were always warm, welcoming, and caring, inspiring confidence in the quality of care at KDH.
With these experiences, it is not surprising that on a cold November day in 2011 as I was driving past KDH on my way to work as a Birthing Unit Nurse at The Ottawa Hospital, I thought to myself, “Maybe I could get work in the new Operating Rooms…you never know unless you try!” (The new OR suites had just recently been opened.)
With 27 years as an OB/GYN high risk intrapartum nurse with Operating Room experience, I put together my resumé and took it to KDH’s Surgical Day Care unit where I put it in the hands of the Team Leader. I was subsequently hired, orientated to the OR, and mentored by the Manager of the unit while completing a 16-week intensive OR course. Now I work regularly in the OR and occasionally in the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Recovery Room) and Clinics.
I love nursing and helping people be restored to health through surgery! In the unit we have a team approach to patient care where each member of the team is valued for their individual competencies and disciplines. I am proud to be a Registered Nurse serving at KDH.
