Volunteering

Volunteers are the key to our survival and there's always room for more. Our various programs are carefully outlined making it easy for newcomers to choose the area in which he or she would prefer to volunteer their time:

Palliative Care
The focus of the palliative care program is to relieve suffering and to integrate the psychological and spiritual aspects of care. The program also offers a support system to help relatives and friends cope during the patient's illness and eventual bereavement.

Special Events (Fundraising)
The Auxiliary has various fundraisers each year. The main fundraiser is HEY DAY (a giant yard sale) held the 2nd weekend (Friday-Saturday) in June each year.

In-House Adult Volunteers
Under the direction of Auxiliary Coordinator Helen Rough, dedicated volunteers provide many services including birthday parties, games, and activities for continuing care patients.

In the ER department, they provide information and directions to people using the out-patient clinics and assist staff when asked.   In the OR department, they provide services to patients and their families.

Teen Volunteers
Under the direction of Auxiliary Coordinators Alice Ballerscheff, this group of young people provide assistance to hospital staff including making beds, bringing fresh ice water, carrying meal trays, making toast, reading to patients, etc.

Every year, the Auxiliary offers a bursary to a deserving teen volunteer and at local High Schools to a deserving graduate student pursuing a career in the Health Care Field.

Gift Shop
Dedicated volunteers staff our Gift Shop, located on the ground floor of the Hospital. Patients and visitors will find a variety of gifts, hand knit items, light snacks and drinks. Don't miss the Second Hand Rose section for great treasures at bargain prices.

Pastoral Care
The Mission of the Pastoral Care Services is to ensure that all patients using the facilities of this hospital have available to them as a part of their total health care plan, the services, ministrations and pastoral care of the church/religion of their choice, when and as requested.

Should the appropriate person of the church/religion requested not be available, and in order that the need expressed should not go unheeded, an alternate willing clergy person will be made available to the patient, especially in situations deemed critical by the medical/nursing staff.

Liturgical Services
Ecumenical Worship Services every Tuesday at 11:30 AM in the Sunroom, with clergy participating Sacramental Services

Roman Catholic - Holy Communion every first Friday of the month and upon request.

Other Denominations - arranged individually upon request.

Other Sacraments - (e.g. Sacrament of the Sick, Anointing, and Reconciliation) - arranged with individual pastors upon request.
